Cassina Argyle
Mackintosh, Charles R.The Cassina "Argyle" dining chair is one of Charles Rennie Mackintosh's most celebrated designs and the first of his synonymous high-backed chairs.
The chair was originally designed with a dining table in 1898 for Miss Kate Cranston's Argyle Street Tea Rooms (Glasgow). Interestingly, the attenuated high back has no real function other than to create a strong visual statement within the tea room itself.
The pierced oval back-rail is decorated with the familiar flying bird motif used elsewhere at the Argyle Street Tea Rooms.
The chair has an ashwood frame stained black and a seat upholstered in black leather.
Produced under license from the Estate of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and so indicated by a stamped signature and serial number of each model.
Not to be confused with the now common poor quality models available.
Dimensions (cm)
Height: 136 Seat height: 46 x Width:48 x Depth: 47
