The Akari 75A Pendant from Vitra was designed in 1951 by American/Japanese artist and designer Isamu Noguchi who started to design the Akari Light Sculptures. A total of over 100 hand-made Shoji-paper models for table lights, standard lamps or ceiling luminaries were created. He chose the name 'akari' for these objects, a word that means 'light' in Japanese, suggesting the idea of illumination and physical lightness.
