Designed in 1945/46, Charles and Ray Eames spent many years experimenting with new processes for optimising the way three-dimensionally moulded plywood fits the contours of the body. The result was the Plywood Group, with moulded plywood seat, backrest and base.
Due to the slender organic shapes of its seat and back shells, the LCM (Lounge Chair Metal) quickly acquired the nickname 'potato chip chair'.
