These collectable Wooden Dolls were designed in 1963, by Alexander Girard. The dolls are made in solid pinewood and painted by hand.
Alexander Girard was one of the decisive figures in post-war American design. A key source of inspiration was his passion for South American, Asian, and Eastern Europe art. The wooden Dolls, which Girard created for his own home in Sante Fe and made himself. Half decorative element, half toy, the Wooden Dolls were originally intended only for personal use. Based on the originals found in the Girard Estate held by the Vitra Design Museum, the partly joyful, partly grim-looking dolls are a charming enhancement to any interior.
